Career summary
February 2011 - To Date Freelance Audio Visual Project Manager
I now work on a freelance basis for many production companies and individual clients. This is done on a job to job basis which means I can give my clients the individual attention that they require.
June 2010 – January 2011 Head Technician – RBS Conference Centre Gogarburn
I am in charge of the technical aspects of running the Royal Bank of Scotland conference centre at Gogarburn, Edinburgh. This involves meeting with the clients using the centre and finding out what the requirements are for each individual event, then, organising the correct manpower and equipment. On the day of the event I ensure the conferences / meetings / filming / Video Conferences, etc run smoothly. I also deal with equipment maintenance, staff appraisals, etc.
March 2009 – To May 2010 Freelance Audio Visual Technician
I worked for many A.V. companies such as MCL, On Site Services, West End studios, etc. I also worked directly for many venues such as the SECC in Glasgow, the EICC, The R.C.P.E. Queens Street, etc. When working as a technician I rig, operate and de-rig most types of A.V. equipment. In a technical event manager role I meet with clients, discuss their requirements, work to their budgets and implement the required equipment and manpower. I have extensive experience of conferences, meetings, award ceremonies, product launches, AGM’s and management road shows both in the UK and abroad.
June 2006 – Feb 2009 Director - Country Lifestyle Homes
My two brothers and myself formed CLH and we have two developments. One at Illieston Castle Steadings by Broxburn, (eleven Houses, this won conversion of the year 2008 at the Scottish Home Awards). The other is at Lanark, (six houses, one of which won house of the year at the 2009 Scottish Home Awards). I was in charge of day-to-day site management, this included site safety, deliveries, man management, tools, maintenance and plant hire. We are not taking on any more sites. During this time I kept in close contact with the A.V. market and took time to work on several large groups of management meetings, one of which was for the S&N group during their take over by Heineken.
2002 – May 2006 Audio visual Technician – Freelance
I worked for many A.V. hire companies such as MCL, Tapestry, Bristol A.V., West End studios, etc. I also worked for many venues such as The SECC Glasgow, EICC, R.C.P.E. Queens Street, Turnberry Hotel, etc. I worked with all aspects of AV at conferences, meetings and Road Shows both in the UK and abroad.
1998 – 2002 Audio Visual Technician - Sound & vision
During my first year I attended college, (part time) and gained an HND in Music Technology. I worked with all types of audio visual equipment. I rigged, operated and de - rigged the equipment on road shows, at conferences, award ceremonies and openings, (including the opening of the Scottish parliament). I worked at Technician and Senior Technician levels. I left to become a Freelance Audio Visual Technician.
1989 - 1997 Pensions Clerk - Guardian Royal Exchange, 13 St Andrews Square, Edinburgh
I Dealt with Pensions brokers and the paying of commission. I also dealt with data control and input. Upon the successful implementation of a new computer input system I was given a promotion. I left to study Music technology, (HNC) and was a full time student for one year.
1986 - 1989 Life Insurance Clerk - Crusader Insurance, 2nd Floor Sidlaw House, Almondvale Boulevard, Livingston
My duties included general clerical work such as filing, answering telephones and Data Input. I left for another job with more prospects and a better salary.
